It’s not new news but Genarlow Wilson is still in prison and one has to wonder why is he still there. The judge threw out the 10 year sentence over some dumb rule that even puts a minor at risk of the mandatory 10 year sentence. The Attorney General of Georgia Thurbert Baker must be related to that girl or something because it seems he is hell bent on making Genarlow Wilson serve those 10 years. Genarlow Wilson has more than paid for the mistake he made 4 years ago and I just will never understand the rationale that the only way to deal with African-American children is to treat them like animals and lock them up and throw away the key.
My Biggest problem with this is the Thurbert Baker who is also African-American has this passion for making an example out of an African-American teen who was an honor student in school and had no prior record. The girl in this case bears no responsibility and yes she was a minor but so was Genarlow Wilson. I’m by no means trying to put blame on the alleged victim of this case but if we are real about it and the sex was consensual between minors and there was no adults in this case why are we treating Genarlow Wilson like an adult?
Why is it a surprise our kids act this way
Yes, Genarlow Wilson made a mistake as most teenagers will do make be mistakes, but if anyone thinks that the punishment fits the crime in this case they just have a problem with Black kids. With all the sex and sexual images that are on TV, the way women are depicted in music and just the lack of respect given to women how else do people think these kids are gonna act when the parents backs are turned. I have a 16 year-old daughter and my wife and I keep drilling in her head that she is worth more than what the TV says or music videos. We keep telling her to walk around with the upmost self-respect and demand respect from others, but when she is not with us does she truly live by that creedo? My heart hopes so but I can’t say for sure, you can only teach your kids the way to go and hope they are listening because you must let them go into this harsh world.
Black Self-Hatred
The part of the Genarlow Wilson case that bugs me the most is that Thrubert Baker the Attorney General of Georgia is participating in what is self-hatred. Why is he so determined to make Genarlow Wilson pay for this crime for the rest of his life. The plea on the table is one that would make Genarlow Wilson a convicted felon and thats like prison outside of actually being in prison. The oral sex law was change because of Genarlow Wilson to be a misdemeneaor but the law isn’t retroactive so what the state of Georgia is saying is , yes it was a stupid law but sorry Genarlow, it doesn’t with your case in the least bit.
