Well I for one thought I would never hear that name again in the media! She was suppose to be just a reference point in time as a gauge on how bad race relations had gotten(and seemed to have stay) in the NYC and America at-large. It was the first exposure the nation got to the intense Rev. Al Sharpton. I was only 15, the same age as Tawana when this was happening and it was definitely my first exposure to Rev Sharpton and I can say that I was intrigued not only by his passion for justice but by his hair as well(Good Lawd!)!
It was case that kept building and building, the horrific story of abuse and sexual assault that Tawana Brawley endured. Then it all went out in left field, allegations that she lied because she was scared of her step-father. Her mom, who would not testify and the grand jury came back and said it was all a lie. I believed it as a kid, I thought how could she make up something like that , ruin the lives of 2 men black or white , that allegation can ruin lives even if you are cleared of any charges.
Now 20 years later and 20 years wiser, I’m not sure who to believe anymore, still tainted by my 15 year-old opinion but now not foolish enough to believe that black people get fair and equal justice in a court of law.
So the stage is set for the parents of Tawana Brawley to ask the Governor of New York and the Attorney General to re-open the case that seem to have the doors shut tight on it so long ago. I personally want this case open again yes one of the accused is dead, apparently of suicide(which seems an act of guilt to me), but if there is any sliver of truth to this justice must be sought and justice must be served!
Let’s keep an eye on this story and see what happens

A lot of people have watched the movie “American Gangster” by now starring Denzel Washington and I have heard a lot of opposite opinions on the movie. The opinions vary about the story and the movie itself from the plot took too long to develop to we are making a thug into a hero. I think what bothers me the most about the latter opinion is that I remember all of the accolades about the movies like “The Godfather”, “Scarface”, and “Goodfellas” were such epic stories with real life characters you could root for just as much fear!

So where is this opinion of Frank Lucas and the movie “American Gangster”? Now I don’t want anyone to misunderstand me , I do not condone or glorify the selling of that poison to anyone and I certainly do not look at Frank Lucas as a hear. What I do see and what I think African-Americans should see is the potential of our people when we set our minds to accomplish a task or goal. Think about it, it took Frank Lucas only a few years what the mob couldn’t do at all at any time. Truth be told that was why he was brought down also because he was a black man and basically he was higher than the mob and that bothered a a lot of people, politicians, cops and even white criminals.

Like I said, I’m not here to glorify Frank Lucas at all but to say that he was not put on the same pedestal like the Gottis and the Castelanos of the world would be such an understatement. Just think how the media treated the mob bosses and a lot of you didn’t hear of Frank Lucas until the “American Gangster” movie.
To me it just another form of double standard that black people endure and probably always will endure

In Acworth,GA. a shocking story of an 8 year old and a 9 year-old boy allegedly raping an 11 year-old girl. The girl told her family about the alleged rape a couple of days after it happened. This is a shocking story and we wonder what is wrong with our kids. We are not doing our kids justice, they are quite simply exposed to too much on TV and radio. It doesn’t matter if they boys are guilty or the girl is making this story up as one of the fathers of the boys stated, we have to take control to what our kids are exposed too.
Our kids are losing their minds and quite frankly this is the tip of the iceberg as far as how bad things can get for our kids. I just find it amazing that kids so young have the concept of forcing themselves on someone. I cannot believe the times that we are in at the moment.
