Irene MorganOn August 10th 2007 Irene Morgan Kirkalady died at age 90. Though she was a quiet humble women in her later years. Irene Morgan was a woman who fought for what she believed in, and believe right is right no matter what rules society had in place. Nine years before the famous refusal to give a white man a seat by Rosa Parks, an act that turned the nation upside down, there was Irene Morgan. In July 1944 Irene boarded a Greyhound bus in the 4th row of the bus. A white couple boarded and needed a seat. The bus drive told Irene Morgan and her father to move to give the couple the seats. Irene Morgan refused and was arrested in Virginia. She tore up the arrest warrant, kicked the sheriff and resisted every step of the way. She was eventually arrested and charge with resisting arrest and violating Virginia’s segregation laws.

Irene Morgan pleaded guilty to the resisting arrest but plead not guilty to the second charge. She appealed her case to the Supreme Court lead by the NAACP’s head legal Counsel Mr. Thurgood Marshall. The case, Irene Morgan v. Commonwealth of Virginia 328 U.S. 373 (1946) was heard by the Supreme Court and they ruled 6-1 against Virginia enforcing segregation laws on interstate buses. Though the Supreme Court ruled in favor of Irene Morgan, the southern states refused to recognize the ruling and the case and continued to enforce segregation laws. This lead to the famous Rosa Parks standoff in 1955, we all know what happen in that case.

Had it not been for Irene Morgan the Rosa Parks case would have certainly not have as much weight behind it when going back to the Supreme Court. Let’s Honor Irene Morgan and her efforts, and never forget her.

Rest in Peace Irene Morgan.

I love when these politicians put their feet in their mouths. Of course if you listen to the current administration in the White House , you are lead to believe that they never do any wrong and everyone else is wrong. One of the reasons people voted for these guys is because they supposedly stick to one side of an issue and they stick to it. The other candidates were always flip-floppers as they put it. Well Check out this Dick Cheney interview fro 1994 on the subject of an invasion of Iraq. I think it will surprise you, or maybe not.

and as always leave your comments about this one, I would love to hear what you think.

Michael Vick dogfighting caseWell I haven’t talk too much on this because it has been so saturated in the world but I find it very strange that the federal court wants NFL quarterback, Michael Vick to plea guilty instead of going to court. A hefty fine and some jail time is reportedly apart of the plea deal. I find this very strange because for one, federal indictments convert into a 95% conviction rate in a court of law. The other reason is that they are suppose to have 2 others in the case that have been charged that are suppose to turn state’s evidence against Michael Vick and place him at dog fights for reduced sentences.

Given all those factors this makes me believe that they don’t have that much evidence against him. Once again federal indictments usually turn over to a 95% conviction rate once an indictment has been issued. So why the plea bargain? Also they are suppose to have the 2 witness that are testifying against Michael Vick. This can backfire because any lawyer worth his weight in gold will slaughter their credibility on the stand and twist it to show the only reason they are testifying is to save their own hides. Since we are talking about a millionaire’s lawyer, it is a pretty safe bet that the witnesses won’t look too good once Michael Vick’s lawyers are done with them.

Even though it doesn’t look too good for Michael Vick I think he shouldn’t take a deal. Yes the risk is high in doing that but with the way our society worships athletes, it will be a hard task for federal prosecutors to get a all-PETA supporters jury.

This will be an interesting trial none-the-less!

You seem Angry at everyone…..

Thats what I was told about the tone of my blog by some non-black friends. Quite honestly I can accept that and say hell yeah! As an intro to an old Public Enemy song goes “I got a right to be hostile, my people being persecuted!” I love people, of all races and creeds, thats what makes us so great the individuals that make up this world. I however will always point out the wrongs and injustices that happen to my people and for all the bad that happens to black people recently from Shaquana Cotton to the Jena 6 and everything in between. As a responsible black man with a small amount of intelligence how could I not be angry? The best kept secret is that I probably most of my anger to my own people because quite honestly we just don’t get as a whole. I hold black people to a higher standard than anyone else really does because I know what we are capable of and we just are keeping ourselves in a box.

That being said, there is still enough injustice that happens against us that is not our own doing that we have to stand up and point them out or no one else will. That is the great thing about the blogesphere, it is the new undreground of information as I stated in an earlier post. It’s impact has made light to alot of issues, the Shaquanda Cotton case is a prime example of that. As long as there are situations like that then blogs like mine and many others will be here to put a spotlight on these issues. Once all of those issues and injustices disappear, I will gladly change the tone of this blog into a fluffy don’t worry be happy bubble-gum blog that’s theme is think nothing but happy thoughts.

Dont’ Hold your breath…..
